How does Green Team operate at events?
Green Team provides all materials needed to execute waste diversion at events. We set up waste stations throughout the event that consist of organics, recycling, and garbage. Stations are manned by volunteers to help attendees properly sort their waste, resulting in clean waste streams.
What can volunteers expect to do at an event?
Most volunteers will be in charge of a waste station, either individually or with a partner. Volunteers will engage attendees to help sort their waste into the proper receptacle, and provide resources where required. All training and PPE is provided. Green Team is also always looking for volunteers to assist with things such as science communication, social media, planning, etc.
Can Green Team attend my event?
Yes! Green Team LOVES receiving invites for community events. We ask that event organizers provide a map or layout of their event, and enough volunteers to assist with manning the waste stations. If you are interested in inviting Green Team to your event, or you want to learn more about our process or what we provide, please get in touch! Please consider providing us with minimum two months notice when sending your invite (although it never hurts to ask!).
What materials and equipment does Green Team provide?
Green Team will provide planning and logistics support, a GT event lead, three bin waste streams, bags, PPE, shade, as many volunteers as we can find, and SMILES! In return, we ask that event organizers provide volunteers.
Does Green Team provide training to my volunteers?
Absolutely! Green Team will make sure you are a waste diversion champion with education, reference sheets and of course, an amazing community alongside you to get started. We have great mentors and volunteers on the Green Team. We work as a team.
Can I earn volunteer hours with Green Team?
You sure can! You can attend any of our upcoming events and/or join our Planning Committee to earn hours. Stick around and you can add us to your resume as well 😉
Who is the big green bird chicken owl on your shirts and marketing materials?
That would be Champ! Champ is a BIRD and is our fearless mascot, always increasing moral and representing Green Team and waste Champions all over. If you see Champ in the wild, take a photo with them and tag us on social media!
What is Green Team’s #1 rule?
To have fun! In addition to having an impact on our community, we prioritize ensuring our volunteers are having FUN! Waste diversion is always a great time when you’re in good company. We tend to have A LOT of fun at events and always make meaningful connections!
